How long does it take to create a large oil painting?

Each large-scale oil painting is a detailed and layered process. Depending on the complexity and drying time, it typically takes several months to complete. We also have works that have taken over a year or more before they are considered finished by the artist.

Belgian Berge Linen is considered one of the finest painting surfaces available — it’s made from long, strong flax fibres and has a luxurious, naturally smooth weave that holds paint beautifully and resists warping over time. Compared to standard linen, Berge Linen is more refined, with superior durability and texture. Cotton canvas is also a quality surface, slightly softer and more absorbent, often used for smaller or more casual works. No matter the material, we only use premium-grade fabrics and museum-quality stretcher bars to ensure every artwork is crafted to last a lifetime.

What’s the difference between Belgian Berge Linen, standard linen, and cotton canvas?

Not at this time. We believe framing is a personal choice best made to suit your space and style. Many of our original artworks are painted around the edges on boxed premium canvas, making them ready to hang without a frame. This edge-finishing approach preserves the full image and offers a clean, modern presentation. It also makes the artwork much easier and safer to ship.
If you'd like to frame your piece, we're happy to recommend several excellent framers based in the South Island of New Zealand.

How are artworks packaged for shipping?

For over a decade we have used the services of a packaging company who take great care in packaging each piece. Originals are securely wrapped with foam cover and thick multi-layer large bubble wrap creating a protective pillow around each piece and boxed or crated as needed. Prints are sent rolled in sturdy tubes or flat-packed depending on size.
